control. Keep your copy of this document in your passport. Upon arrival in Rio you may be
sent through a special US citizen passport line. This seems to change every few weeks depending
on US State Department regulations.
After cleaning customs, which is usually perfunctory, exit the customs area and you will be greeted by Robison Scorsollini (owner of Diniscor) & Julio Cesar Tremeschin (your technical guide) holding a “TEXAS” sign. Robison will be with you during the critical transportation points of the tour, and Julio will be with you full-time. Robison does not speak much English, but is very skilled in dealing with all the services you will be using. Diniscor is a tour operator and Anglatin’s partner in Brazil. Julio is extremely knowledgeable on Brazilian agriculture. He is an agriculture chemist by profession and works as a consultant for several large Brazilian agriculture companies. Scribe - What That Means
Everyone will be appointed a day (or ½ day) to act as a SCRIBE as well as preside the same day. Your SCRIBE assignment replaces your narrative for the entire trip. SCRIBING is the keeping of a journal of the events and activities that occur on your assigned day for the whole class. The TALL office will assemble all of the journals, and some selected photos, and put them in a bound book/copy for each of you. This is an easy way to document the entire trip in a thorough way. It also is beneficial in giving the TALL Advisory Board members, Investors and Administrators a detailed account of your exciting experience. (We will give them out at Graduation on June 1st.)
This must be written and e-mailed very soon after you return (due no later than May 10th) as re-formatting it for printing, copying and binding will take some time. Since this is a replacement of your overall narrative it is a requirement of your graduation. We suggest that since you only have 1 day to cover, you start on your assignment while you are on the trip. This will allow you the opportunity to quickly re-write or edit it upon your return.
Suggestion: On travel or free time days, please interview your classmates to see what they experienced and their opinions vs. their expectations. This would also be good for the individuals who SCRIBE on the plane over and back.
Presiding - members will continue to perform the typical duties of that position, 1) introduction of speakers, 2) take pictures (Dr. Jim has a new digital camera thanks to Nishi’s research), 3) obtain accurate names and addresses of speakers (get their business card to help you with this.), 4) give out gifts. On travel days, Dr. Jim might need assistance so this will be your responsibility.
